HART OF THE WILD BUNCH
by Joan of Arc Pictures
Hello & Welcome
We are a group of female filmmakers consisting of Sophia Arguelles, Lina Larson, and Taylor Hall. Here, we tell stories of the women who came before us. The adventure we are about to partake in, with your help, is Joan of Arc Pictures first production: HART OF THE WILD BUNCH, a short film that follows a gang of women in 1908 in their defiance to the limited roles and opportunities society has placed on them. Sophia Arguelles originally wrote this short because of her love of the stories Westerns tell, but her dissatisfaction with the limited way women were involved in them. This is our chance to make something cinematically groundbreaking, visually striking, and give audiences a fun change to see Western culture and women in a different light. So here we find ourselves as the Hart of the Wild Bunch, being the ones to tell women's stories from the voice and perspective of women.
Logline: A Wild West gang of runaway women find themselves destitute after a chain of unsuccessful heists. Benevolent leader Cassidy Hart must leverage her authority when one of her rebel followers rallies the group around a very dangerous scheme.
"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (1969) meets "Bad Girls" (1994), with all the comedic notes and none of the female Western 'sexy' stereotypes.
The Impact
As an actress and writer, Sophia wants opportunities for women to play interesting roles where women get to entertain without overcoming sexual abuse or tragedy. While those stories are essential, thought-provoking, and offer deep connections to people who have suffered similarities, there are many male-centric movies that bring life into people and carry the test of time. Over decades we have seen Clint Eastwood, Gary Cooper, John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Paul Newman, and actors alike play charismatic, witty, strong, heroic personas. It's time for women to be a part of that narrative where we bring life and ease into the world.
As a young girl, I would've loved to see that ease, popularity, independence, and confidence in any female character. I grew up almost thinking women weren't capable of any of that. - Sophia

How You Can Help
Donate and forward!
As fiscally sponsored filmmakers with 501c3 status (nonprofit), we rely on the charitable contributions of friends and family just like you. Because of you, we will have the means to not make just any short film, but to make a cinematic piece one with true historical authenticity and magic.
Funding will go towards authentic Western clothing, props, and horse maintenance. In addition to the magic, it will help supply the practicals as well: lodging cast and crew in Pioneertown, permits, insurance, camera equipment, and food. This makes our funding goal $12,000
If you are not in a place to financially contribute, that's okay! We would still love your help getting the word out and making some noise. Follow and share our Instagram: @HartofTheWildBunch
